William D. Ford Direct Loan Program
In 2010 the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program was created, sometimes known as the federal forgiveness program. This program allows students/borrowers to enter a repayment plan based off their income and how many people they support rather than the actual principal balance and capitalized interest of their federal student loans. Borrowers can qualify for reductions in monthly payments from anywhere from 30 to 80%!
